If you would have asked anybody in the IT industry ten years ago how best to reduce your budgets whilst safe-guarding service levels, you would have got the same stock answer – outsource. If you had asked the same question again five years ago you would have got another stock answer - offshore. If you were to ask the same question today, it is unlikely you would get either of these answers.
Whilst outsourcing has worked tremendously well for larger organisations that were able to remove the complexity of managing their own IT department and focus exclusively on their core business, offshoring support has not proven to be the great success hoped for. The initial love affair with taking advantage of the strength of sterling in the global marketplace to buy in cheap foreign labour soon soured when companies realised that the level of support just did not compare. If your business depends on your IT systems, those few pounds saved on your initial contract is soon offset by the amount of money lost on your first prolonged outage.
We believe that whilst there is a place for offsite support (we provide that) there is no substitute to having dedicated staff on your premises, or co-located with your hardware should that be in a separate data centre. We think that your staff should be more than just a voice on a phone, especially one on another continent.
